Eligibility criteria for scholarships
Please carefully read the eligibility information on this page prior to submitting your scholarship application.
Eligibility Criteria
You will be eligible to apply if you are:

-
Female or non-binary/gender diverse (GWV scholarships are not for those who identify as men)
-
Enrolled on 31 March in the year of application at a Victorian university, a Victorian campus of the Australian Catholic University or a Victorian Institute or College accredited to award the degree in which you are enrolled
-
An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
-
Experiencing or have experienced disadvantage in the pursuit of your studies
-
Have not previously won a scholarship or bursary in the category in which you are applying
-
Meet any other eligibility requirements as set out in the application form
Disadvantage in the pursuit of education
Applicants must demonstrate to the satisfaction of Graduate Women Victoria that they are or have been disadvantaged in the pursuit of their studies. Disadvantages may include:

-
Financial difficulty or low income
-
English as a second language
-
Migrant or refugee status
-
Disability or medical condition
-
Family/caring responsibilities
-
Geographical isolation/significant distance from campus
-
Family crisis or difficult family environment
-
Career/study disruption
-
Other difficult circumstances
Eligibility for multiple scholarships
In any one year you may normally apply in one category of award.
-
Applicants for the Indigenous Postgraduate Scholarship may also apply in the relevant Masters or PhD category, but must make a separate application to do so.
-
Note that if you are enrolled in a Masters of Teaching/Education or equivalent, you should apply only in the Education scholarship category.

Where multiple awards are offered within a category, you remain eligible for any appropriate award even if you have nominated for a specific one.
-
For instance, you may have nominated for the Madeleine Capicchiano Bursary, but this will not preclude you from being considered for or being awarded a major Scholarship if you are the best candidate in the opinion of the assessors.

Applicants with existing scholarships
You may apply for a GWV scholarship if you have other non-GWV awards and/or scholarships, but you will be asked to include information about other scholarships in your application.

If your application is unsuccessful for a GWV Scholarship or Bursary in a specific category, you may apply again within the same category in subsequent years.
If you have already been awarded a GWV scholarship, you may apply again in a different category. E.g. if you received a Masters by Coursework award in 2020, you may apply in the Research category in a later year.
